From Global News.
As Kyiv and Washington continue to work on an agreement that will grant the U.S. access to some of Ukraine’s mineral resources, citizens from different mining hubs are speaking out, warning President Donald Trump not to take advantage of the deal and exploit their rare deposits.
Trump has applied pressure to Ukraine by threatening to cut its flow of military aid, Ukrainian President Volodomyr Zelenskyy has been working hard to create a mineral revenue fund that the Republican administration can dip into as payback.
“It feels a little bit like another country is using our vulnerability… which was created because we were attacked,” Ukrainian MP Inna Sovsun said on that matter. “[They’re] using that in order to get some payment for the aid that is being provided.”
Despite a tense exchange between Zelenskyy and Trump at the Oval Office in February, the Republican leader suggested Sunday that the televised kerfuffle did not negatively impact the leaders’ relationship. He went on to express “disappointment” in Moscow’s repeated missile attacks in civilian areas of Ukraine.
