The U.S. is defending its Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) organization, following claims it was responsible for the death of at least 20 Palestinians as they were crushed to death during a stampede at a GHF distribution site on Wednesday.

“We would urge member states, and the UN, to support the GHF and stop echoing incorrect information that benefits Hamas and undermines the secure delivery of aid to civilians in Gaza,” the U.S. representative from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) said during a Wednesday meeting convened by the U.K., Denmark, France, Greece and Slovenia.

While GHF – which is backed by Israel – has accused Hamas of fomenting panic and spreading misinformation that led to the fatalities, the Palestinian militant group calls the claims "false and misleading” – further blaming the incident on both the GHF and Israel’s military.
