US moves up Russia ceasefire deadline, threatens tariffs on allies

The US is escalating pressure on Russia, moving up a previously set deadline for Moscow to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine.

Roughly two weeks after President Donald Trump gave Russia 50 days to come to the table, that deadline has been abruptly shifted to Aug. 8.

Washington is now using both economic and diplomatic pressure, including the threat of tariffs on Russian allies, to push for a ceasefire.

Global’s Reggie Cecchini reports that it remains unclear if the Kremlin will respond.
