Vermont senator speaks out in support of Canada, calls tariffs “appalling”

In this trade war against the U.S., it’s sometimes felt as though Canada stands alone.

But this country does have allies — including those just across the border.

A Democratic senator from Vermont has been one of the most outspoken voices in the U.S. against the tariffs. Sen. Peter Welch called a meeting of U.S. and Canadian businesses, to hear how President Donald Trump’s policies are hurting workers on both sides of the border.
