WATCH: Former adviser Stuart Eizenstat eulogizes Carter | Carter Funeral

From PBS NewsHour.

Stuart Eizenstat, former adviser to the late President Jimmy Carter, offered in his eulogy at the National Cathedral what he called a redemption of Carter’s time in office.

He detailed Carter’s domestic and international successes, from installing solar panels on the roof of the White House to negotiating a major nuclear arms treaty with the Soviet Union.

“He may not be a candidate for Mount Rushmore. But he belongs in the foothills,” he said.

“Jimmy Carter has earned his place in heaven. But just as he was free with sometimes unsolicited advice for his presidential successors, the lord of all creation should be ready for Jimmy’s recommendations on how to make God’s realm a more peaceful place,” he concluded.

The official state funeral in Washington on Thursday caps a long farewell that began — and will end — in his hometown of Plains, Georgia. Carter died Dec. 29 at age 100.
