WATCH: Hassan grills Oz about children losing insurance from Medicaid cuts

From PBS NewsHour.

Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., asked Dr. Mehmet Oz about the Republican budget plan and its potential effects on Medicaid, which covers tens of millions of children.

"How many children losing health insurance would be acceptable to you?" Hassan asked Oz, President Donald Trump’s pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

"I don’t want children losing health insurance," Oz said before the Senate Finance Committee.
"Well, then you’re going to need to reject the Republican budget plan," the senator said.

A House GOP budget plan calls for the House Committee on Energy and Commerce to cut $880 billion from programs under its purview, and Medicaid, though not mentioned by name in the bill, is likely to be a target. About 1 in 5 Americans use Medicaid.

Oz is a cardiothoracic surgeon, author and former host TV host. He has come under fire in the past for promoting unproven supplements and weight loss treatments.
