Mike Gonzalez, a senior fellow at the conservative think tank The Heritage Foundation, testified before the House DOGE subcommittee on Wednesday, arguing federal support for public broadcasting should end.
“With their egregious bias, NPR and PBS have violated the public trust. Public media needs to be defunded and the CPB needs to be dissolved. It’s a matter of simple fairness,” Gonzalez said in his opening statement.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., the committee chair, has accused NPR and PBS of bias. The heads of both organizations testified in Wednesday’s hearing.
PBS, NPR and their respective local stations are funded in part by a $535 million appropriation provided by Congress through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, in addition to substantial foundation, corporate and viewer donation support.
