WATCH: How to save on your electric bill as prices rise

The U.S. government is predicting record demand for power over the next two years. Energy prices are already outpacing inflation, and the changes to subsidies in President Donald Trump’s big bill could raise household energy costs by $100 or more a year in the next decade, according to estimates from consumer groups and think tanks.

There are ways to conserve energy and save money, especially during peak summer heat waves. PBS News’ Tim McPhillips spoke to Courtney Lindwall, a home and tech reporter with Consumer Reports, about what changes consumers can make at home, from purchasing new energy efficient appliances to smaller daily hacks, like how to set your thermostat
