Georgia authorities responding to reports of an active shooter on Friday, Aug. 8, in the area of Emory University in Atlanta said the incident involved a single shooter who is now dead.
"One law enforcement officer was injured in the response," Atlanta police said.
The situation was reported contained within a few hours but Dekalb County spokesperson Sloan Turner told USA TODAY, "We are asking all residents and members of the campus community to remain indoors as a precaution while the investigation continues."
The private university in DeKalb County had issued an alert warning there was an "active shooter" at the CVS store on campus at around 4 p.m. local time. The alert urged people to "RUN, HIDE, FIGHT. Avoid the area."
