WATCH: Sen. Scott questions Hegseth in confirmation hearing

From PBS NewsHour.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., questioned defense secretary nominee Pete Hegseth in a confirmation hearing Tuesday held by the Senate Committee on Armed Services.

Scott asked Hegseth to talk about how the military could improve recruitment. In response, Hegseth pointed to President-elect Donald Trump.

"I think the first and most important thing we’ve ever done is elect Donald Trump as the commander-in-chief because past is prologue," he said. "Our war fighters understand what kind of commander-in-chief they are going to get — someone who stands behind them, someone who gives them clear missions."

Hegseth is a military veteran and conservative media personality. Trump’s pick for defense secretary has faced allegations of sexual misconduct and excessive drinking, and been criticized as a nominee for his controversial views on diversity and religion in the military.
