WATCH: Sen. Tillis talks about partisanship in Patel confirmation hearing

From PBS NewsHour.

Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., questioned Kash Patel on Thursday in his confirmation hearing for FBI director.

In his second round of questioning, Tillis talked about his support for past FBI directors and touted his bipartisanwork with Democrats. He compared the forthcoming confirmation vote for Patel as a "shirts and skins game," Democrats versus Republicans.

"We had Pam Bondi here and we had people on this committee talking about a friendship or a friendly relationship in the past. The fact is it was a shirts and skins game. Blue voted no, red voted yes. It’s going to be the same thing for your confirmation," Tillis said.

Patel appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

A loyal Trump supporter, Patel is a former public defender turned Justice Department prosecutor. He served in President Donald Trump’s first term as chief of staff to acting defense secretary Christopher Miller. In interviews, he has said he wants to reduce the size of the national intelligence community, and shut down the FBI’s headquarters in Washington. He’s also repeated the false narrative that Trump won the 2020 election.
