WATCH: Trump ‘grateful’ for Supreme Court ruling limiting injunctions, clears path for his policies

From PBS NewsHour.

President Donald Trump celebrated the Supreme Court’s ruling Friday that limited the scope of nationwide injunctions from lower courts that blocked many of his executive orders, including one ending birthright citizenship.

“I’m grateful to the Supreme Court for stepping in and solving this very, very big and complex problem, and they’ve made it very simple,” said Trump who has railed against the dozens of nationwide injunctions issued against his policies since taking office.

In the 6-3 decision, the justices did not weigh in on the constitutionality of Trump’s order, which sought to deny citizenship to U.S.-born children of people in the U.S. illegally. Birthright citizenship is a long-held provision of the 14th Amendment that has guaranteed citizenship to most people born in the United States for over 120 years.

The justices’ move does leave open the possibility of the order to go into effect next month in states that didn’t challenge the order. With Friday’s ruling, Trump’s birthright citizenship order will not take effect for 30 days, which allows time for additional challenges.Watch PBS News for daily, breaking and live news, plus special coverage.
