“We don’t know whether we will survive”: Couple searches for missing children after deadly floods

From Global News.

A couple continues to search for their six family members after sudden flooding triggered by a cloudburst in the Himalayan state of Uttarakhand, India.

“Our six children were in Dharali when the flash floods came and everything was lost [and] flattened,” Veer Singh said.

Singh said he and his wife, Kali Devi, had a makeshift tin home that they shared with their three sons, a daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren — in a camp where 21 others also lived.

The entire camp was submerged by a wall of water, he said.

Singh said the couple had been shopping and were on their way home when heavy rains and landslides cut off the road connecting the two of Uttarkashi to their camp.

On Thursday, teams rescued people stranded by flood waters, two days after a sudden wall of water and landslides killed four, with many more still missing. Authorities said about 400 people stranded in Gangotri were rescued by air. It is not clear how many people are still missing.
