From Global News.
Canadian Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Friday after meetings in Washington, D.C. focused on the growing trade war between the two countries that they now have a better sense of the “rules of the game.”
“We want to win,” Champagne said, adding that while he didn’t want to speak publicly about their conversations with American officials, they “have a better understanding of the frame around the America First and economic policy and trade policy they put together.”
Asked about whether their American counterparts would be willing to work with Mark Carney, Finance Minister Dominic LeBlanc expressed confidence in the incoming prime minister.
LeBlanc said there is “no confusion” in the U.S. about how Canadian democracy will unfold and that the federal government remains “in a position to exercise its authority.”
