Warnings of famine in the Gaza Strip have increased after nearly 22 months of war, with the death toll mounting and no signs of an imminent breakthrough in truce talks. Israel has announced a limited “tactical pause” to allow aid groups to address the deepening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. International pressure has been building for a ceasefire to allow for a more substantive relief operation.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has so far killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to figures by the health ministry in the Hamas-run territory. The UN considers the figures reliable.
