A major storm lashed the northwestern US with high winds and rain, causing widespread power outages, school closures and downed trees that killed at least two people.
The Weather Prediction Centre issued a risk of excessive rainfall through
and hurricane-force wind warnings through Friday as the strongest atmospheric river, a large plume of moisture, to hit California and the Pacific Northwest this season swept through the region.
The storm system, which began on Tuesday, is considered a "bomb cyclone", which occurs when a cyclone intensifies rapidly.
