From All Roads.
As the mighty Guadalupe River flows through Kerrville, local and exotic fauna flock to a haven on its banks. In the heart of Texas Hill Country, the Riverside Nature Center is an educational and ecological oasis. Free and open to the public, the center fulfills founder Susan Sander’s goal of ecological literacy for everyone.
Maintained by dedicated volunteers, the two-acre property packs in over 100 species of wildflowers, grasses, and ferns. Meanwhile, birds weave their way through the branches of 140 different free species found on the property.
The garden is also a Monarch Waystation, where butterflies reproduce and sustain their yearly migration from Canada to Mexico. And beyond its aesthetic beauty, the property is an educational wonderland. Visitors can put down roots at the outdoor classrooms in front of the historic Lawson Store Building. Besides the Promise Sculpture crafted by local stone mason, Dean Mitchell.
